The Intelligence Response Team (IRT) set up by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, has recorded a major breakthrough in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

A statement by the spokesman for the police, DCP Don Awunah, reveals that the feat as the team setup its targeted onslaught against crime and criminality throughout Nigeria.

Acting on credible intelligence and public support on November 29, 2016, the IRT intercepted a four-man gang of heavily armed suspected kidnappers, popularly known for terrorising the waterways in Rivers and Bayelsa states.

A gun duel ensued, after which three of the kidnappers were fatally wounded while one 30-year-old James Peter from Southern Ijaw LGA of Bayelsa State was arrested.
