Edo Government To Employ Female Mechanics
Edo State Government has taken a new turn by planning to engage female mechanics in the maintenance of vehicles in its Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
The newly elected governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki, made the disclosure at the graduation ceremony of 25 female mechanics in Benin City, the Edo State capital in south-south Nigeria.
He expressed his administration’s readiness to partner with a non-governmental organisation that trained the graduands, Lady Mechanic Initiative.
“I want to throw an offer to you today. In Government House, we have a workshop (and) we would like you to come and take a look at it and also see if you can take over maintenance of the vehicles in Government House,” the happy governor said on Monday.
Highlighting his motive for the decision, Governor Obaseki said it was in line with his agenda for job creation and youth empowerment in the state.
He added that his administration’s strategic plans include rebuilding the Benin Technical College and encouraging female mechanics drivers to study at the institution.
